Stepping Out on Saturdays Manitoba
SOS is a Therapeutic Recreation Program for Children with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). Designed to offer children a fun day in a supportive environment where they can play, practice friendship skills, and learn strategies for taking care of their emotions. Trained staff and a low child-to-adult ratio are keys to a successful day. The SOS Program knows each child is unique, with their own gifts and strengths. Through the intake process, a plan to support each child is developed. The program is offered in five Manitoba locations: Bloodvein, Brandon, Selkirk, Thompson, and Winnipeg.
Programs
Campers at the SOS program participate in many fun activities throughout the day! This includes movement games, arts and crafts and sensory rich play. These activities are guided by the We Thinkers and Zones of Regulation® curriculums, which provide our campers with a fun way to learn about social thinking and strategies for emotional regulation.
The Winnipeg program is offered one Saturday a month. It is run by the Rehabilitation Centre for Children out of the SSCY Centre (1155 Notre Dame Ave., Wpg, MB) from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis. Contact us for more info about programs in other areas.
